What are your certifications?
I am a Registered Dietitian and Nutritionist through the American Dietetic Association and a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine. I have a BS in Nutrition and a minor in Dance.
Through experience in my graduate studies, and my current work experience with Whole Foods Market, I specialize in developing and cooking healthy, nutrient dense meals and snacks.
What is the difference between a Registered Dietitian and a Nutritionist?
As a Registered Dietitian, I have completed a BS in Nutrition, and an American Dietetic Association Accredited internship, as well as passed a national exam. I also have the ability to diagnose nutrition related problems. A ‘nutritionist’ is a blanket statement that anybody can claim themselves as.
Can you diagnose medical conditions?
Short and simple answer – No. I can diagnose nutrition-related problems.
You said you don't "do" diets But, You’re a DIETitian, how do you not put your clients on a diet?
Oh, diets. Diets don’t work. Think about it, have you ever gone on a diet that you’ve been able to stick with long term? (I’m assuming not since you’ve made it this far). Most diets, and even diet-like behaviors, back-fire. And the truth is, eating does not have to be that intellectualized. Unfortunately, the evidence is clear. We can’t outsmart our bodies. This work is not about dieting your body into submission, it’s about caring for your body so ultimately it can care for itself. This doesn’t mean we won’t discuss nutrition, and it certainly doesn’t mean that your medical condition (ie diabetes, celiac disease, etc) won’t be addressed. But my approach is based on building healthier habits so you can maintain a healthy life, not follow a set of food rules that in the long run, might cause you more harm than good.
What if I already follow a specific diet, like a Vegan, Vegetarian, Gluten Free diet? Will I have to stop?
My goal is to help you figure out what will work best for you. If you feel good (and that means both mentally and physically) on a vegan diet, rock on with your bad self. I’m more concerned about your motivation for following a specific diet, rather than the diet itself. My job is to educate you, and help you live your best life. If that life includes a vegan diet, I won’t try to stop you!
You said you don't offer weight loss programs, but my dr. told me i'm overweight. Don’t I need to lose weight in order to be healthy?
Good question. If you’re unhealthy right now, changing your nutrition and exercise habits (amongst many others) can help improve your health. This might also cause you to lose weight. But it might not change your weight at all. And in some cases, you might gain weight. By taking the goal of weight loss off the table, we are able to focus on practices that can truly affect both your physical and mental health.
I like what you’re saying, but I still want to lose weight. Can I still work with you?
Look, if there wasn’t a piece of you that didn’t want to lose weight, you’d likely not be reaching out to me. What I ask is that you are at least open to the possibility of not losing weight. Can you entertain the idea of health for health’s sake? If the answer is no. That’s okay too. But do you want the answer to be yes? That’s the real question.
What results can you guarantee from your services?
Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee you results, because as you may have gathered YOU are the only one who can make that guarantee. But, I can guarantee that I will give you the TOOLS to help you reach your goals. I will listen carefully and I will make sure that you have the support you need to develop a healthier relationship with food and your body.
What forms of payment do you accept?
Cash, Check, or Credit in the form of Visa, MasterCard or American Express.
Do you offer payment plans?
Do you accept insurance?
Currently, no I do not. However, some insurance companies might reimburse you for a nutrition counseling session, and I am happy to fill out all necessary paperwork associated with reimbursement. Please check with your insurance company, as I cannot guarantee reimbursement.
Do you offer refunds?
I do not. The only instance where I would offer a refund is if I, for whatever reason, don't deliver on the service you've purchased. However, that has never, and will never happen!
