Intuitive Eating {virtual} support group

This group will meet with Jessi Haggerty, RDN cPT every friday at 1pm EST via Skype.

As I talk to more and more women on releasing food guilt and shame, and cultivating a more positive relationship with their bodies, some days it can start to feel like I’m having the same conversations over and over again. Don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love having these conversations (and every single one is unique in their own way), but I sometimes feel like if these women had the opportunity to say out loud, what they say to me in private, they would be astounded with how many times they heard “me too” as a response. And while I believe that we’re all on our own path, and at times need individualized support and attention through our journey towards building a better relationship with food and our bodies, it’s also profoundly useful to lean on the support of other women in a safe, moderated space.

If you’re reading this, it’s likely that you’ve tried a diet or two (or twenty) in the past. And if you’ve taken a few rides on the diet roller coaster before, you might also know that the diet mentality lasts long after the diet itself. But the interesting thing about the diet mentality, is that it manifests in unique ways in all of us. It’s that dynamic duo of the Food Police (“are you sure you want to eat that?”) and the Nutrition Informant (“I can eat whatever I want, as long as it’s healthy”), and together they are the culmination of your upbringing, the rules of every diet you’ve ever been on, and our diet-obsessed culture.

The diet mentality is a strong force that often keeps us stuck dieting, even when we don’t think we’re on a diet. It also keeps us at war with our bodies as we try to lose weight, inches, or squeeze into those jeans that fit you five years ago. What I, and many of my clients have been able to discover, is that beneath all of that fear around food and fat, is a really amazing woman that is capable of really amazing things. The diet mentality takes up a lot of precious bandwidth that could otherwise be used for, well, just about anything you’d like.

If you’re tired of feeling “out of control” around food, exhausted from exercising your willpower to fight cravings,
and ready to release the side guilt and shame that comes every time you eat a food you actually enjoy, this group is for you.

The Intuitive Eating Support Group is a weekly group-coaching session for women who are quite simply, looking to cultivate a more healthy relationship with food and their body. Each week you’ll have an opportunity to share a struggle, an “aha” moment, or anything on your mind. The session will delicately balance helping each participant on an individual level, while working together towards collective goals using the strategies of Intuitive Eating, Health at Every Size, and body acceptance. Please note, this is not a webinar, or conference call. This group is interactive, and each group will have no more than eight participants, leaving plenty of room for you to receive individualized support and guidance from myself and others.

This group is for you if you're looking to:

  • Free yourself from dieting (and the diet mentality)

  • Make peace with food and your body

  • Release guilt and break free from emotional eating

  • Honor your hunger and fullness

  • Get started with an Intuitive Eating practice

  • Cultivate a more positive relationship with your body

  • Build body awareness and trust through a movement and exercise practice

… and more!

What This Is:

  • A (virtual) weekly group coaching session for women who are looking to cultivate a more healthy relationship with food and their body.

  • A weight-inclusive program that practices the principles of Health at Every Size and Intuitive Eating.

  • A chance for you to receive individualized support and guidance from myself and no more than seven other women.

  • A safe space where you can talk about your thoughts, fears, and vision for the future.

  • A time to check-in, collect your thoughts, connect with other women, and receive actionable steps to help you move forward on your path each week.

What This Is Not:

  • A webinar or conference call. This group is interactive, and requires you to participate, to the extent in which you feel comfortable.

  • An eating disorder treatment option. If you are currently diagnosed with an eating disorder, and seeking treatment, please contact me directly and inquire about individualized coaching, or additional treatment resources.

  • A replacement for individual counseling. While there will be plenty of opportunities for you to receive individualized support and feedback, please note that this is not a direct substitute for individual counseling.

  • A weight loss program. While weight loss might be a side effect of some of the practices you implement, it is not the focus of this program. Please feel free to contact me with more questions on this!

  • A supervision group for clinicians. If you are a clinician who would like to learn more about eating disorder recovery and how to use Intuitive Eating principles in your practice, please reach out to me directly and I will point you in the right direction!

The deets:

  • Session will be held every Friday at 1pm EST via Skype for 60-75 minutes (time will depend on number of participants and group interaction). You can come as often or as little as you like!
  • We'll be working our way through and around the Intuitive Eating book and the Intuitive Eating Workbook to give us some 'jumping off' points for each session. Occasionally, I will upload additional articles, blogs, or PDF worksheets to read or work through. Check back at the syllabus below before each session to see the upcoming theme, reading, and writing assignments. These are not mandatory, but they will be used to shape the discussion we have each week. As always, feel free to bring any and all thoughts, questions, or struggles about IE to the group, regardless of the week’s theme and assignments.
  • I know that schedules are chaotic, and sometimes when we do this work some "breathing space" and implementation time is necessary between sessions, that is why this group will run on a week-to-week basis with no long-term commitments. Please note however, that sessions are limited to 8 participants, so if you know you'd like to come regularly, please sign up in advance to reserve your seat.
  • Pricing is sliding scale $20-45. This is a true sliding scale, meaning you pay whatever amount within that range you feel comfortable paying, no questions asked. I'd prefer you pay less and come more often, than pay more and only come a few times. I've created this scale because I know financial situations are fluid and ever changing. There might be months where you pay less, and months where you pay more, or you might choose the price that feels right for you and stick to it. You decide!

what You’ll Get:

  • 60-minutes of group coaching

  • An outline of the meeting, along with actionable goals delivered to you via email after each meeting.

  • Access to a private Facebook Group to engage in discussions between sessions.

Sessions run every Friday at 1pm EST (unless otherwise noted).

IE Book: Chapter 1, Hitting Diet Bottom
IE Workbook: Pages 6-11

Questions to consider: Have you hit diet bottom? What did it feel like? Was it a specific moment or was it a culmination of many small “bottoms”? Have you experienced the ‘last supper phenomenon’ with previous diets? Are there times the ‘last supper mentality’ still arises? Did you discover anything about yourself after completing the IE Workbook pages?
