Are you a runner who often hits the pavement without do much as doing a quick side stretch? If this is you, listen up! While running is great cardiovascular exercise, it's not so great for our joints. The repetitive single-plane motion of running can cause a lot of unnecessary wear and tear on our joints, ligaments, and already weak and tight hip flexor muscles.
All you need for this workout is two resistance bands: a heavy (or heavier) band and a light (or lighter band). If you have a yoga mat, I would also roll that out.
This is a GREAT workout to do, well all the time, but particularly if you're traveling, or squeezing in a workout at home where you have minimal equipment. All you need for this one is your own body and an (optional) yoga mat. We'll work every muscle group in a short 20-minutes.

This workout is designed to work every muscle group in your body with as little impact as possible. That means no moving up and down from the floor and no (required) jumping or hopping. This is a great workout if you are new to exercising or at a time in your life where you might need some modifications, like pregnancy. Of course, make sure you are cleared to exercise before giving it a try.
Because this workout is way more fun when your body is moving to some music, I've created a complementary Spotify playlist. The video will prompt you when to press play and then you are good to go!

This 20-minute workout is designed to work your entire body using one single piece of equipment: the towel. You'll need a medium- large size towel for this workout (and a hard-wood or tile floor). Using the towel allows you to keep maximum points of contact with the ground, helping you engage your core and feel the opposition needed in each exercise to build balance and strength. As always I offer plenty of modifications so give it your best shot and let me know what you thought in the comments below.
I've decided to try something new, and I can't wait to hear what you think. I'm going to start adding a weekly workout post every wednesday. But, after spending the last six months thinking about putting this out there, I knew I wanted it to be a little bit different.
If you know me, you know I love a good workout video. But, what I don't love is how they inspire women to workout by tapping into those deep-seeded insecurities most of us have. "Belly Fat Buster" "Get Rid Saddle Bags" "Bye Bye Back Fat" or "See ya Later Cellulite."
Look, I get it. I would be lying if I said I never thought about the superficial benefits of exercise. But what I've found after over 10 years in this industry is that if you keep talking to your body in this negative way ("I hate my thighs, my belly, my arms...") you will never achieve the results you want.
This notion inspired me to create a virtual fitness studio, BodyLove Studio, where the philosophy is simple: show up to do the work. The purpose of these workouts is not to fight your body, it's to help show you just what your body is capable of so you leave with love and appreciation for everything that vessel can do for you. Check out the first Total Body Workout, below.
